Are Vibe and Matrix instrument clusters interchangeable?

Post by Curlybandit »

Hello.

On another post I have on this forum I've asked this same question but it's buried at the bottom of the post. I have an '05 Vibe that has hit the dreaded 299,999.

I wanted to know if of anyone can confirm or deny whether the instrument cluster of the Vibe and Matrix are interchangeable.

I understand that the '03-'04 do not have the same wiring at the '05-'08. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you.

This is something I would also like to know. I wish I could have a maintenance reminder set up in mine.

I do not know. Initially I thought they'd be the same, but then I checked car-part.com, which lets you look for parts out of junkyard inventories. If you look for a Vibe engine, it will give you engines out of Vibe, matrix, Corolla, and others. If you look for an 05 Vibe speedometer, it just gives you Vibes. If you look for a Matrix speedometer, it just gives you Matrixes. The junkyard industry is well motivated to know parts interchangeability, and it sure seems like they think the 05 Vibe and Matrix clusters are NOT interchangeable. Not a definitive answer, but if I needed one, I would take their word on it.

If you replace the cluster, then you'll get the odometer reading of the car it came out of, unless you get it rest. In that case it would better to just get the current cluster rest, and save the cost of the extra cluster.

I don't know if any of the years/models ever had a maintenance reminder. My 03 has two trip meters. I never meter a trip. I reset one trip meter each time I fill up the gas tank, and I reset the other when I change the oil

The 03-04 clusters are different from the 05-08's, which are also different from the 09-10's. Base and GT clusters are different, as are US and Canadian clusters

Yes the Vibe and Matrix are interchange able. Remember the drive train, engine and trans are all Toyota so its not like you are putting a Matrix cluster into a Vibe with a different trans or engine. I have found that as Chevy no longer carries much of the Vibe parts any more or charge a lot for them you can find all the parts at Toyota for a cheaper price. example I needed a new gas pedal and Chevy didn't have it but when they did it was $240 yet Toyota had it for $110, Lug nuts at Chevy $14 ea Toyota $6 ea. This is just a side note. Vibe and Matrix made at same plant in California. All same tell you get to the Radio, Alt, front grill (Pontiac Eyes) and few others that had to be AC Delco because of contract but still interchangeable with Toyota parts.

I believe that Vibe and Matrix came out of different plants. The VIbe was US in the NUMMI plant., the Matrix was made in Canada.

You are correct Vibe and Corolla (and Tacoma on a separate line) came out of the NUMMI plant in Fremont, CA. Matrix and Corolla came out of the TMMC plant in Cambridge, Ontario.
