2005 , replace coolant questions=-

Post by jamesmetairie »

Hi Guys
What,s the latest to do with a coolant change?
I plan to drain and flush and refill with "any kind/any color" coolant.

In the absence of the little air burp screw connection like on my Chevy Lumina, do you still recommend lossening the lower radiator hose to get the air out of the system?

what works best for you?

Thanks

Use Toyota Red Long Life Coolant.
Expensive yes but it's designed to play the nicest with the engine and radiator metals.
Get it from the dealer, the full strength stuff and then mix it 50/50 with distilled water.
Use just distilled water for the flushing part.

No need to remove any hoses.
Just run it with distilled water and the rad cap off until it start circulating and then drain. Do this 2-3 times to get the old stuff out.
Bleed air out by elevating the front end, with the rad cap off, engine running with heater on full blast and pinch the hoses every now and then.

I just refilled mine. I had to do multiple little run cycles with the front end lifted because I had a big bubble form in the top hose. It would only burp out if I let it run, shut it off, and then squeezed the top hose. At the time, I couldn't remember if I should turn the heater on or not, and I was covered in coolant so...plus I'd had to go out and buy new clamps because I was tired of wrestling those stupid freaking spring clips.

I use one of these for all my coolant change needs. Works brilliantly. Here's the link to an example:

Oh, one more thing. As was mentioned above, Toyota Red long life coolant. Don't purchase the pre-mix. It is simply NOT worth the money when it's so easy to grab a couple jugs of distilled water and mix it yourself.
