Cold air intake and exhaust questions 09 gt

Post by Truexstory »

Hey everyone I am new to my Vibe and was wondering for cold air intake/exhaust what my best options were without buying a whole new magnaflow exhaust system. I had read on here that the k&n typhoon was a good intake but I didn't see it for the 2009 gt. Any recommendations are welcome, and if you could include links that would be great! Thanks everyone!

Welcome! Yes, the K&N Typhoon is a good CAI for the 09-10 Vibes. It is not listed as "applicable" to the Vibes in particular simply because K&N did not test fit one on a Vibe, and they just don't want the liability, even though they know many of us have run them on our cars. The part # is K&N 69-8613TS for the Matrix and Scion xB. I had it on my 2010 GT and it worked very well. Several other members also have the same one.

Carrie on here (vibenvy) has it with a dry filter, along with the Magnaflow exhaust. Hers looks really nice. I'm sure she will chime in here.

Here are some pics of mine. Wish I still had that car.

I have it installed as well, and have noticed an increase in mpg.

it's not that difficult, but I had issues because one of the screw heads was stripped.
I've also bought the Dryflow filter, and put the water/bug/mud guard on my filter.

I have had the K&N Typhoon short ram air intake (#69-8613TS) and AEM Brute Force Dryflow air filter (#21-203BF) installed on my Vibe since July of 2009. I have not had any major issues with it and I have seen a consistent 1-2 MPG increase in my gas mileage. A year or two ago, I added an AEM air filter wrap (#1-4000) to help keep dirt, etc. out of the filter. This past July I had the Magnaflow catback exhaust system (#16849) installed and have once again seen a consistent 1-2 MPG increase. The exhaust sounds great. It's barely louder than stock until you step on the gas, but even than it's not obnoxiously loud or droning. I highly recommend it. I highly recommend Hott Exhaust for the cheapest price on it. They have a link on their homepage to contact them about discount codes. Be sure to take advantage of this. I messaged them and told them what I wanted. They sent me a code that saved me around $140.00. I ended up paying ~$440.00 shipped. I paid another $60.00 to have it installed by a trusted local exhaust guy. When I went to pick my Vibe up, he was saying how impressed he was with the fit and quality of the exhaust. I was worried about how it would fit, sound, etc. but I am so glad I decided to get it. It is well worth the price tag.

Click the links in my signature below to check out pictures of the intake and exhaust installed. Let me know if you have any other questions ;).
