Sounds like grinding?

Post by Andrea12 »

I just had my whole brake system changed in early June (pads, rotors, callipers), and while two GM dealerships and one independent mechanic have all found that brake components look good (callipers not sticking - which has been an issue previously, pads have no abnormal wear, etc), I'm still hearing what sounds like grinding from the front passenger side when coming to a full stop. One explanation I've heard is that it's just the ceramic pads wearing in (first time with ceramics), but I'm still not convinced. I have also hear a "grindy" noise while reversing into my inclined laneway. Anyone with similar issues or with insight?

Plastic piece rubbing on CV shaft? During full stop car dynamics change lunging forward, metal/plastic piece rubbing inside of tire?

i was getting a "grinding" noise from my passenger front side brakes for about the past 30 or so days. i started getting intermittent squeaks from the driver's front brakes the other day and figured i needed to do a brake job (60,000 miles on the factory rotors and pads.) i removed all 4 wheels and inspected, found even surface wear on all 4 rotors. rear pads were worn evenly, with more than 50% of the material left. front pads were also worn fairly evenly, but a bit more so on the passenger side. driver's side was down to about 1/4 of the pad material, passenger side down to about 1/8. i replaced the front brake pads (cheap advance auto ceramics) this weekend and the squeaking and grinding noises are nowhere to be found.

I'll re-check if there's anything rubbing. I had issues with both rear wheels - dust shields were removed because they were rusting out and began rubbing on inside of wheel. Didn't notice anything at that time re front wheel though.
