How much should be in the pan when you change it? The owners manual says 3.2 Qt. I went to the parts store and picked up 4 Qts. and a filter, dropped the pan and drained the oil changed the filter and after cleaning the pan up, installed it back on the car. I usually just add what comes out and check the dipstick to get it to the correct level after driving it to get it warm. When I took the old oil and filled a gallon jug for recycling it went to the top and filled about 2/3rds of another Qt jug. I only had 4 quarts but I knew that was enough to drive a short time to go get another one but why the difference from the manual? Maybe that was a drain only and not a filter replacement too? Any thoughts? I checked it after I got another qt and ended up putting almost 4.5 Qts in to get to the hot mark on the dipstick, the car was warm and driven about 5 miles shifting through all the gears so I'm confident it is filled correct.
Just guessing, but could you have drained a quart out of the oil cooler also? Additionally, from memory, Total system volume is 9 quarts, but I needed 10 quarts to fully replace my (05 base) transmission fluid. The book may simply be wrong about the 3.2 quart sump volume, I didn't measure mine when I changed the filter.
