Ooooh that smell

Hoping for some suggestions here.

The guy I bought the '08 Stealth from apparently used something to clean/deodorize the interior, like maybe highly concentrated Fabreze soaked into the fabric. It's been since August, but the smell is still there. It's a smell that I can actually taste, even though I've left the windows cracked for weeks on end. I removed the cheap Husky floor liners, and I think maybe some of the chemicals might have been in the floor mats under those liners, but it still just won't go away.

I love this car almost as much as I love Frosty, but this chemical smell is making me ill. Any one have any suggestions for something I can try to remove or neutralize the odor?

Depending on your location, you may be able to find a fire and smoke remediation business that has a portable Ozone machine to put in the car for a day or so. I've heard that works, but I haven't tried it.

A guy I work with who was a cop in SC gave me something to try: a bowl of Scope set inside the car for a couple days. He swears it removes the smell of a dead body that's been sitting in a closed car in the SC sun for a few days, so it should work for other smells too. I guess I'll give that a shot, sure doesn't cost much to try anyway.

Try a couple of free packets of coffee commonly found in hotel rooms. I always grab them and use as air deodorizers in my car.

I think the Scope is working, at least that's all I can smell in there right now.

I don't have any hotel coffee packets handy, but if the Scope doesn't work I'll try some ground coffee.

I brought a lost/stray puppy home and she got too excited apparently and peed on the back seat. I used some enzyme cleaner and did all my seats, now my car smells nice and clean! However, it also now smells like whatever perfume/lotion my (removed) ed teacher in 6th grade used. That's kinda weird.

I think the Scope worked. The "minty fresh" smell of the mouthwash is fading away, and I don't seem to notice that original chemical taste/odor anymore.

I can recommend this for others with odor issues, a $3 bottle of store-brand Scope mouthwash. Pour some in a bowl and let it sit in the sealed car up for a few days. I owe my co-worker a box of donuts for this tip!
