ABS Help Needed

Post by coryprine »

Hello folks,

I am working on my mothers 2009 Vibe base 1.8L. She recently had a front passenger blowout which did some heavy damage. I am in the process of the repairs, but have a wiring question.

In the blowout it tore the ABS wire connector off of the vehicle side of the harness. There are two wires coming from it that connect to the abs harness on the hub side. Can anyone advise which color wires go to which? The hub side and vehicle side wiring are different colors from one another, and I can't find anything in the way of a diagram for this system with color codes.

Her ABS light is on as well as the VSC is flashing, so I would assume this wiring issue is to blame. All other damages are cosmetic.

Are you talking about the wheel speed sensor wires?

Which wheel is the harness that's murdered on?

The front wheels are (speed sensors):
Right: brown and light green (from hub to emergency brake control module)
Left: light green and violet (hub to EBCM)

Rear:
Right: Black (hub to connector); red (con to EBCM)
white (hub to connector); dark green (connector to EBCM)
Left: light blue (hub to con) black (con to EBCM)
pink (hub to con) white (con to EBCM)

It looks like only the rear sensors have connectors that change the wire colors, however ProDemand has been wrong before. I can't post screenshots of the diagrams because I think that may actually be illegal. The wires for the sensors were the only ABS-related wires going to the wheels I was able to find. Can you hook up a scanner and check for body/ABS and VSC trouble codes?

It is the front passengerside.

I do not have the car in front of me right now, but If memory serves me..... there are a black and a white coming from the hub and a green and either brown or purple coming from the vehicle side.

I had a buddy pull some codes from the car.... There was one P code for the camshaft position sensor and two C codes.... Those were both showing as TPMS codes, which were cleared when the tire was replaced.

It sounds like the wires from the hub were changed out from the original ones or there was a factory weirdness. The diagram says light green is in terminal 1, brown is in the terminal #2. If you pull the sensor, the terminals may be numbered...I did some soldering tonight and didn't see any numbering on the connectors going to the ignition switch in my '06 base, though, so I don't know if Toyota labels connectors with a small number of terminals.

I hope this helps. If not, either someone else may reply with the answer, or you'll have to try asking dealerships or the manufacturers (if asking Toyota, tell them it's a Matrix and don't mention the Pontiac Vibe words, or they'll tell you to ask GM straight off).
