Ive been looking around about any info to replace the rear hub on an AWD vibe. After dealing with the parts stores not having a part number for it i ended up finding a timkin part that people says fits and its in the mail and about a third of the stealership price. Heres the deal, I live in fairbanks alaska, its effing cold outside, im a diesel mechanic with no garage and too damn cheap to bring it to the shop. I am going to do it in the driveway when the temps are around 0. I decided -10 is my cut off for working on cars.
From what i have read so far i know i need a 30mm 12 point socket, but i heard some nuts are 6pt, i will check on that. I doubt i have that size because i didnt bring my big sockets when i moved.
Then i read someone used a 12mm 1/4" ratchet and socket with extensions and a 3/8" drive and 3/8 to 1/4" adaptor.
What else do i need to know? i want to avoid having to have an alignment done so i dont want to take off any suspension parts. Any other input would be really nice. Im also 99% sure its the passenger side and i know its best to replace both of them together but id rather not do that right now, probably in spring ill do that other side but i want to be sure.
Oh yea, its a 05 awd base vibe with the 1.8 and automatic.
Thanks everyone
