MP3s in the Vibe

Post by newvibe »

I have an MP3 player that I would like to hook into the vibe. I have searched previous discussions but want to see if there are any options. Here's what I have learned:There appears to be no clean way to get a line into the stock stereoFM radio transmitters don't work very well although a custom FM kit might be fineMany new stereos can accommodate a line in through the back or through a jack in the front. There is a PIE adapter for the back that can probably provide a line in - it is around 70-80$USBefore I go for a new stereo, is that the current situation? No line-in in the back without a somewhat pricey adapter? Anyone using a half-decent transmitter to do the job?

If you have an iPod, the iTrip seems to be the best FM trasmitter out there. However, if you do a LOT of travelling, it isn't worht it because you will be constantly searching for stations. As is the like with all FM transmitters. Even so, stuff in the car could mess with reception and a direct line in is always the best bet.But your assumptions are correct, although I haven't seen that PIE adaptor yet, so I am not sure on that one.

I have the iPod with iTrip and do not recommend it unless you live out in the sticks. Range and quality of sound is very poor.

I just went through the same thing1) Bought iTrip it was not good enough so I sold it2) Attempted to locate a line in for stock radio, I could not find one3) Bought a new stereo, AMS, installed with line in adapter and wiring etc. for $299.T

I have the Ipod and used it with the Irock Fm transimitter from South east VA to Hudson Valley region of NY and back...Driving through Richmond, DC, Baltimore, all of NY and somewhat through NYC..... I give it a C++, b- rating....I had some static and found that I had to switch stations aroung.. sound quality isn't the best but is my only solution for now in using mp3 with the car..
