Help please; spent $500 on 2 engine mounts and still NOISEY.

Post by pointbob »

Ok. I'm going to take it back to the mechanic but this is making me stressed.

It's an automatic 2006 Vibe.

The main symptoms were vibrations/nosieyness (ironic eh..vibe...get it lol?) annoyingly in the driver/passenger side during low idle (around 700-750) primarily in "drive". Specifically when stopped at lights/line ups etc. Took it to mechanic and the front passenger engine mount and back mount was replaced. The next day it is still making the same noise (actually it is worse..); especially louder at start up from cold.

I had a tune up last year and that made no difference with the problem and I've been living with for a while' the only reason I got it "fixed" was because it did start to get worse. Also I saw the old engine mounts and they were cracked.

So now what? Can anyone suggest ideas as to what the real reason for this problem is. I'm scouring my brain for theories and it's ranging from the mechanic screwing up when he replaced the mounts to a bad muffler?? What bugs me is that the car consistently drops to 750 rpm when it's in drive while stopped. And who knows ..maybe 750rpm is normal lol.. Clearly engine mounts don't affect rpm. Otherwise car drives fine.

Any help really appreciated. THANKS.

Pointbob not sure what you mean about idle 750 in drive is right for most cars. Your noise problem sounds like it may be your tensioner for your drive belt (serpintine?) . Some times when they go bad they chatter at idle. Good luck hope you find it.

Yea I did the same thing on my Mazda 626 and never did fix it. Was thinking it maybe a bad Torque Convertor. Have to tried the harmonic balancer?
