New member and New Vibe owner.

Post by Dairgo »

Hi All.

I recently traded in my 2006 Monte Carlo, and purchased a used 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT with 80k miles.
For the most part the vehicle is all lined up and good to go. A former pontiac dealer has ordered the parts for 2 of the 3 recalls, and took care of the master window switch one. I'm also having the battery terminal issue taken care of, can't believe I overlooked that in the per-inspection and at the shop I broght it to missed it as well, oh well.
I've done some research into the Vibe, and haven't seen too many issues, and they seem to be low maintenance vehicles if you keep up with it.
I've looked at the sunroof, and there doesn't appear to be any rust on the frame of it, so good there.

Any how, to the questions for those that have owned Vibes for longer than I have.
Are there any issues that I should know about with the 2009 GT and the 2.4L engin / 5 speed auto transmission?
I've looked at the K&N Cold Air Intake kits, but they seem to be for the 1.8L, is there one for the 2.4L, or does the 1.8L fit?
Any other things I should know about the Vibe.... looking for any more knowledge is appreciated.

Hi and welcome

Only serious issue with the 2.4 is possibly oil burning/excessive use. it affected the earlier engines, pre 2010, i think. Other than that, no other serious issues.

Is this the correct part?

69-8613TS

and from what I understand it just bolts right in, without too much hassle?

Yes, that is the part I have. It was pretty easy to install.

Welcome to GenVibe! We have had both our 2009 Vibe GTs (both 5-speed autos) for about 4.5 years now (they were both purchased new in 2009) and we have not had any issues with either one of them (although they both only have a little over 44,000 miles). I have not really seen of anyone else on here having any major issues with them either. There is a member who posts once in a while whose 2009 Vibe GT was approaching 200,000 miles without any major issues. So, they definitely seem to be very reliable.

Just as trb and Kincaid posted, the K&N #69-8613TS intake is indeed a direct fit for the 2009-2010 Vibe GT / AWD / 2.4L Base. Installation is pretty simple and I linked you to the installation instructions in the other thread about cold air intakes that you posted in. Check out our Garage threads listed in my signature below to see more pictures of the K&N intake installed on both our 2009 Vibe GTs.

Just curious about the "battery teminal" issue you referred to in your initial post? I don't recall ever reading anything on here about anyone having issues with the battery terminal/s on their 2009-2010 Vibes...

Post some pictures of your "new" Vibe when you get a chance ;)!

Vibenvy here's a link to my album and at the end are pictures of my battery terminal "issues"

And by "issue" I mean someone hacked/spliced in a new cable and it is corroding.
