Interior lights questions (09)

Post by kumquat »

Are there no footwell lights in this car?? I'm thinking of getting some LED strips or something to mount under there, but I'm worried that I won't be able to find an interior light power wire to tap into. Any suggestions?

Also, there seems to be no way to turn on all the interior lights without opening the door. Is that right?

That is correct, unless you slide the button for each individual light to "ON".

That's wild. I might wire a switch into the driver's door ajar circuit so I can flip it and get interior lights. I might also have to figure out how to wire some footwell lights in there too.

If anyone has any tips on where to find an accessible wire for interior light power let me know.

If your looking for a power source to tap, if you have the cigarette lighter package you can steal power from the wire that powers the glow ring around it - another spot I found ignition voltage is on the passenger side behind the glove box - there is a connector just sitting there (if you have the theft deterrent package with the vibration sensor your out of luck on this one) that is for the theft system upgrade - there is a ignition power source on one of the wires which could be tapped & routed to a switch if you not into cutting into working circuits

Quick Answer!

Please!I'm looking for a quick reply!
Hi guys. have a question for you.
I am looking to buy a 2004 Vibe.
One of the issues is that the sticker shift board lights are off, so it's difficult to see it during the night.
Also the window buttons (except the AUTO one) also do not light. The owner says that they never are on. But I have some doubts about it.
SO could you help me in this issue?
It's a pending sale, i may get it for a good price, just want to know how much is the repair going to cost.

Only AUTO on the driver's window switch lights. There is no backlighting elsewhere on the window switches. Or door lock switches for that matter.

For the other thing, is it the shift indicator on the automatic? That one does light up. It's a tiny bulb, and it's probably relatively inexpensive, but may require console removal to access easily.

Yes it's automatic, and the lights are off. I know it's probably a bulb issue, the question is how I get to the bulb :)

I added a switch to turn the roof lights on. I used a basic SPST rocker switch from Radio Shack. I found the purple wire that leads to the door ajar button sensor, spliced a wire to it, and ran it down the column to the area by the traction control switch. I mounted the switch on one of the pop-out spacers there. The other pole of the switch went to the ground point just under the dash on the left side of the footwell.

When I flip the switch, the purple wire is connected to ground which tells the car that the door is ajar and turns the roof lights on.

I want to add footwell lights but I need to splice into the dome light circuit. I want them to come on automatically when a door is opened or my switch is flipped.
