Water Pump Leak - 2006 Vibe

Post by Don2006 »

I drive a 2006 Vibe 1.8L FWD. It has 25,000 miles on it.

I brought it in a GM dealer this week for a routine oil change and inspection. The mechanic noted that the water pump has some "seepage underneath it and also some coolant around surrounding areas."

I see a small amount of pink residue on the belts and on the inner surface of the belt pulley flange at the water pump. I can also see a small amount of the pink residue on the underside of the hood, directly above the belts. There has been no noticeable loss of coolant, nor any problem with engine overheating.

I'm taking a 2000-mile road trip soon, and this has me worried. Do I need to replace my water pump now or can I wait?

You should replace the worn-out water pump. If it fails on the road, the engine could be damaged or destroyed.
