Best Route to run lead from Reverse Camera to Head Unit?

Post by Cyphr »

Hi all,
I'm planning to install an Asteroid Smart Headunit and a wired backup camera. I'm wondering if any one knows if any particular route is easier to run cables on, or if I should just follow the leads for everything else forward.

Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

I've done this (rather crappily... so crappily I removed it) myself, so I know a decent route to take. Run the cord from your headunit down over to by the foot rest. Remove the trim over the weather-stripping on the floor. It will just pull out. Then, using a nut driver, unscrew the plastic nut holding the corner trim to the car, and remove it. You'll see LOTS of wires. Run the lead with them. Get into the back seat, and again pull up the kick plate (if that's what it's called :? ). Wiggle the wire through the B-pillar trim, through to the black trim by the seat. Tilt the rear seat forward slightly, pull out the rear tray, and finagle the lead through to the spare tire. Then, using a 10mm nut driver, undo the top tie-down, and pull the trim away from the body, doing the same with the trim around the window. Just pull it slightly away. You can bring it all the way to the headliner, and to the rubber weather-seal. I've never gotten a wire through where the OEM gets the wires though (that rubber tube thing), but all I can say is goo luck. Pull the trim off the hatch (it will just pop off). Unscrew the ballstud from the driver-side WINDOW strut. This will give you more room to get a wire through the little channel. I used a bit of metal wire off a spool (not the electrical type of wire) to get something UP the channel to attach to the electrical lead, and carefully got it into the main area of the hatch. And there you go!

It looks confusing and intimidating, and no I don't have pictures, but good luck!

when i ran mine i was able to run the wire through the rubber loom and then just ran the wires along the headliner, just have to tuck it along the drivers side edge of the liner, peel back the rubber along the door areas to hide it in those areas, then remove panel along the windshield just by pulling slowly from the top then the bottom then route the wires along the side of the windshield and then along the back of the dash to the head unit. replace the windshield panel by simpling pushing it back into the clips. Only took about 10 minutes once the wires were through the rubber loom, but a coat hanger and a little patience it went fairly quick.

This post did not include the year of the Vibe. If for some reason it is the newer 09-10's then I have complete gutted interior pics when we worked on Junior's Vibe GT a couple years ago and are great reference photos of all the hidden stuff beneath the trim panels & under the seats. If it's the older Vibe then listen to Nick as he's had his apart and would be knowledgeable on that model.

I can talk through it (like I did above) but pictures will be tougher.
