Splitting wire going into the cigarette lighter socket

Post by meidou »

I recently bought a blueant s4 bluetooth car kit and would like to hard wire it to the my car. It's powered by a USB cigarette lighter adapter rated at 5W 2A.I would like to split the wires feeding the current cigarette lighter socket and then solder it to the USB adapter such that I can power my device.I know this will reduce the amount of current going into the cigarette lighter but the only other device that I will be using concurrently with the Bluetooth is a Tom Tom GPS.What do you guys think, will my idea work.I am open to suggestions.

Thanks

Power plug mod is not an issue, their is enough power for the device and tom tom. Looking at the item appears it has a battery, will you leave it plugged in all the time, or charge it then hide the power cord? If you only intend to charge it occasionally you could tap into the hidden power port under the center console.

Thanks for the reply and the link.
I plan on keeping it plugged in, I am planning to mound it on the headliner just in front of the rear view mirror.Additionally I plan to hide the wire in the A pillar and the head liner.
