No sound after installing aftermarket stereo. Please help!

Post by icramc »

I have a 04 Pontiac Vibe AWD. I installed a Pioneer DEH-150MP.
It fires up and functions but there is no sound coming out of speakers.
When I put the old/factory unit back I get sound. So the speakers are fine.

Here are my questions:

- What might be causing the no-sound problem here?
- Is it likely that the harness is defective and causing this? Should I try with a new one?
- I read people talking about factory amp but not sure what it is OR where it is OR whether it has anything to do with my problem?

I have been trying to finish this installation for the past couple months with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So here is what I am using for the installation:

I don't have an antenna adapter yet.

Thanks

Did you hook up the power wire for your amp? You more than likely have an amp if you have factory tweeters in your car. If that amp is not powered I don't think you will get sound.

Excuse my ignorance but if there is an amp isn't that already powered since the factory stereo gives sound fine. When I unplug the factory one and plug the new stereo there is no sound.

Please see these photos:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/0tjc5bzqrmdpdy9/IMG_1151.JPG Cables that came out of the factory stereo (White and black)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/wb4pl0yq0o7e35u/IMG_1152.JPG Back of the factory stereo ( where the white and black cables go)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/q7bf7qc7lr34nz8/IMG_1153.JPG New stereo which has only one place for the white cable. So now the black one is hanging around and it is not connected to anywhere.

I thought if there is a connection between the new stereo and the amp that should be one of the colored wires on the harness.

Any ideas? If you still think it is the amp then how do I hook up the power wire for the amp?

My son and I installed an aftermarket unit in his 06, and we used the Metra CF-WHGM3 harness. First off, does your car have the tweeters in the front doors right beside the mirrors? If so, then it does have the amp. According to the wiring diagram on the harness we used, there is a blue/white wire for the amp power turn on, and the amp ground is a black/white wire. If you have the amp, you will need to power the amp. Looks like your current harness adapter does not have the amp wires on it. Does the label on the blue/white wire you are not using say "amp power"? So you might need to get the proper harness for a stereo with an external amp and hook up the amp power (blue/white) to the blue/white wire and the the amp ground (black/white)to the black wire from the radio.
