2009 GT with 6 speed manual

Post by wpgpolice »

I was wondering if anyone had changed there 5 speed to a 6 speed manual? Or if this is even possible?

As far as I know Toyota has never mated a 6-speed manual to the 2AZ-FE (the engine in your Vibe).
However, the 2.5L (2AR-FE) in the 2010+ Scion TC has a Manual 6-speed. The bell hosing might be the same, but who knows if the axles are the right length, or if the shift linkage would mount up, or any other variable.

What is your goal for making this change?

I would only attempt this if I were restoring a wrecked 09 GT. Also, if the 6th gear were overdrive to where the RPM's drop down to that of the automatics or even a bit lower. I feel the current 5th gear should have been machined to optimize fuel efficiency and lower it's RPM's. On a plus side though, no matter what gear I'm in and no matter what speed I'm at, This little car gets up & goes without much struggle or hesitation :D I can't say that about my 5-speed manual in my 1992 F-150. There, if I slow down too much, I absolutely MUST downshift to a lower gear or I'm not going anywhere

I agree that's one of the things I really like about the gearing they've chosen for this car. If I dropped below 55mph in 5th gear in my WRX it had to be down shifted. 50-55mph in 5th gear is no problem in the Vibe.
