2009 Steering shaft clunking

Post by 09SnowyVibe »

I saw the other thread on the intermediate steering shaft on the 09-10 Vibe. I wanted to start a new post as to not Hi-jack the other one.

My Vibe is an AWD, with the 2.4.

The clunking is felt right in the wheel, it feels like a heavy rattle inside the actual wheel itself. It is only at low speeds in driveways, and some slow rough roads. The Vibe does go through occasional 80 KPH rough roads, and it is only on certain bumps. Highway driving at 100 KPH with the occasional bump, it is fine.

I've greased hundreds of GM products for this issue in the lower ISS. My Dad has a G6 V6, and his had the same problem until I printed the GM TSB, and his clunk went away.
Very annoying, a car i'm paying 300 a month, rattles like an old Chevy truck, and I find out a year later that is what the issue is. I noticed this 3 months after I bought it, but it wasn't as bad then.
I am calling the GM dealer tomorrow. The car has 127,000 on it, and it has a Powertrain Warranty till 160,000, but I am unsure about the coverage of steering parts.

If it is not covered, what is the most durable Toyota P/N to cover this? And, can the old shaft be greased like the other GM's?

Its not just that, the roads STINK HERE! I think I just bent another wheel. At least its a steelie..

Common complaint, but I don't have answers to your questions. Does seem like the Matrix doesn't have that problem and I wish I knew why.
