Temperature control loose/damaged?

Post by Scwmcan »

Just noticed that the Temp control on my 09 is loose at the top, it is sitting at an angle and moves in and out. I am going to wait till warmer weather to take a look ( cold weather and removing plastic pieces don't really go together), but would be interested in seeing a picture of the assembly with the dash trim removed so I can come up with ideas of how I might fix this ( ie did a tab break etc). Also any advice on getting the dash trim off without breaking it is aprectiated. Don't know how the control got loose/damaged, just noticed it one morning on the drive to ork, the control still works but is only attached at the bottom from what I can tell.

Wow! Let's hope that this is not a common problem in our 09-10 Vibes :o First the radio knobs, now the temperature knobs. What will be next .... turn signal knobs? Anyways NO problems with either of our 09Gt's so I can't help much here. Let us know what you find.

Wow, i agree with Tim, hope it is not a common problem. But the dash is extremely easy to take apart, you literally just pull the silver trim away from the dash and there you are, right at the bolts for the controls. I ran some power wires for my cell phones under the trim so ill post some pics later today.

My temperature control isn't loose but the heat/defrost control is loose. The knob can push in at the top but is connected at the bottom. I took the trim piece off and there isn't any attachment at the top. It is only connected at the bottom. I didn't put a lot of effort into figuring it out because it does work fine. Maybe something broke or maybe it has popped loose somehow.

Well as I said it is going to have to wait for warmer weather, but will definately let you know what I find, it does still work but is contacting the surround at the top unless I pull it into position before I use it, not going to leave it like that for long.

It looks like there is a support for the top of the controls on the dash frame, but no bolts or anything. Mine looks and feels pretty firm. Maybe it is how the individual controls are mounted to the support frame for all three controls?

Hmm... Looks different than I was expecting, but will have to see when I take it apart, will have to see how they are secured in the frame alright. Maybe it has just popped out, but I suspect that it was some sort of plastic bit that has snapped, I am hoping to be able to figure out a way to resecure it, don't want or buy a new part ( if the control is even available separately). Would still like to know how it happened in the first place, but never will. I will be sure to take my own pics when I takle it.
