Introducing the 2014 Nissan Vibe?

Post by Chiadog »

It may not be a Vibe, but it looks close. 2014 Nissan Versa Note.

I don't care much for the front-end, but I like clean design and the space efficient vertical rear hatch.

Wow, that rear end is... interesting. Looks like somebody took a sledgehammer to the top of the hatch and squashed it about a foot!

My guess is that it is Nissan's answer to the Honda Fit. Wonder if it is going to be sold in the US.

Tail lights remind me of the Focus hatch a little.

It's a better looker than the current Versa hatch for sure. And better looking than the new Versa sedan imho. I just hope the interior isn't as dreadfully cheap as the new Versa sedan... In a class where interiors are starting to become halfway nice, the new Versa's still screams penalty box.

This Note is a small one. Much smaller than the Vibe. Even smaller than Sonic, closer to Spark-size. Aka, subcompact. Versa has experienced some model bloat, so the Versa Note is Nissan keeping Versa small. But it is definitely cheap. It was the first car at Detroit's Auto Show with a mechanical hatch release. But on the whole, it looked cheap, especially on the interior.

The overall shape is very Vibe like. First gen Vibe/Matrix shape was way ahead of it's time. Ford's new C-Max is another clone... and this one is about the same size as the Vibe all around. Just way heavier and more expensive!

Hmm, yes, it does have a fairly attractive design. Much better than the Versa, I agree. The Versa is somehow both "blah" and "bleh."

I don't think I'm seeing what everyone else is seeing... I see more Prius C in it than Vibe or Matrix. Vibe was a very "in style" car, and thus the design themes can be found elsewhere. Which is why I get so flaming angry when I see people whining that the Corvette "ripped-off" the new Viper. It's styling trend...

I think the new Versa Note is a duplicate of the Fit, but perhaps without the Honda minimalist interior. Some posters on Edmunds have questioned: why would someone buy the new Versa Note knowing it is assembled in Mexico, looks identical to the Fit, and is only a few hundred dollars cheaper than the Fit? Just buy the Fit (Jazz), given its reliability record worldwide. I tend to agree with that logic. Nissan did not set itself apart with the new Versa Note and will likely pay the price. Even worse however is the fact that Honda has NOT been pressured into coming up with something better as a result of Nissan's misstep. Just what we need: a complacent Honda who can churn out some more minimalism. Oh wait; has Honda figured out that ABS and TC is standard on most cars these days? Of course they have; they are just always too happy to be late to the party because they are special.

Actually, it appears to be only a little smaller than the 03-08 Vibe! Same wheel base, 10 inches shorter, 2 inches narrower, and 2 inches lower. The specs I've seen actually claim more passenger volume and luggage volume, but that doesn't seem possible. At any rate, this is no micro-car (Spark). It is practically identical to the Honda Fit, except for the 20% advantage in highway MPG. And it appears to be about 3 inches longer than The Sonic Hatchback. I'm looking forward to seeing one in person.

Looks decent size in this Video:

Edmunds posters will soon have a problem if Hecho en Mexico concerns them. Honda is moving Fit production there for shipment to the US market. ;)

I don't care much for the Fit since Honda insists that economy car buyers apparently want a "sporty" powertrain that runs at elventeen thousand RPM on the highway instead of being geared for fuel economy. If it weren't for the buzzbomb powertrains and resulting poor FE, it probably isn't a bad car.

Don't worry, Honda will have to give ABS and traction control standard, but only since it is a federal requirement now.

I think this car is geared up to compete against the Kia Rio and the Hyundai Accent which are making lots of gains against Honda and Toyota. Did you see that new Avalon? It looks like a stretched Hyundai Sonata with more shiny chrome

As for the Prius C what is the point to this car? It is about the size of a Yaris and has the room of a Yaris but costs about $5000-$6000 more then a nicely equipped Yaris. They both are as slow. The Yaris gets good Gas MPG's(not as good as the Prius C but very good MPG's in any event) It would seem that you would get a better return investment with the Yaris then the Prius C as $5000 buys a lot of gas.

But of course I have never figured out Toyota and The XB will be the last Toyota I ever buy
