Restoring Belt Molding

Post by omega2551 »

The belt molding on all four of my windows have these lighter colored spots all over them. I was wondering if there was any way to get rid of that seeing as how i'm not paying hundreds of dollars for replacements. I've tried Mother's Back to Black but it seemed to have no effect. Has anyone had success with any other similar products on the belt molding? Is this something i could sand down a little bit and paint, or is that a bad idea?

Here's a pic:

I have the same problem as well. With my Vibe being an 2003 its pretty well worn & faded. Last time I washed the car I used an old toothbrush & scrubbed that area. It looked MUCH better & had more of an even tone but nowhere near restoring it LOL. I thought of painting mine as well, but it has a rubbery feel to it & im not sure how well paint would stick to it without flaking off. I used back to black but it eventually wears off as well.

That reminds me of the window moldings on the 87-93 Mustangs. They really weather bad. People sand them down and use the spot putty to fill any holes and then spray them with bumper black or SEM black trim paint. As long as they are prepped properly, the paint holds up pretty well.

Cool ! I have been repainting Misc black parts lately & i will add bumper black to my list. Its amazing how these small details make your car look really great. I used to be a member of corral.net 10 years back when I had my 1990 5.0 LX hatch....I MISS that car LOL ! Thanks for the post !
