Wire harness question: parking brake wire

Post by scottstoked »

Hi there . . . I have a Pioneer 2400BT installed in my '03 vibe. Love it, but now I'm adding the Pioneer XM Radio unit which integrates with the HU.

I've hacked up the stereo's harness a bit too much after trouble shooting a few issues early on and adding a junk iphone video-out cable that never worked properly. Anyway, I now have a replacement. Thing is, the replacement (generic harness off ebay . . . ugh) harness doesn't come with the light green parking brake wire.

BUT, there is a yellow/black wire in the spot where the parking brake should be (according to a pin layout diagram I found). I know normally the yellow/black wire is for a "mute" function. but since it's in the spot where the parking brake wire should be, can I just use it as a parking brake wire? I don't know if there's anything special about the light green wire from the standard wire. Like, if it's rated differently or something?

I could order the proper part from Pioneer, but I'd like to get this XM accessory attached and working before the weekend.

Pin Function Color
--- ----------------------- ------------
1 +12v Power Yellow
2 +12 Accessory (Ign. Switched) Red/White
3 Illumination Orange/White
4 Mute Yellow/Black (EMPTY ON NEW HARNESS)
5 Left Rear Speaker – Green/Black
6 Left Rear Speaker + Green
7 Right Rear Speaker – Violet/Black
8 Right Rear Speaker + Violet

9 Ground Black
10 Reverse Signal Input Violet/White (EMPTY ON NEW HARNESS)
11 System Remote (Amp Turn On Lead) Blue/White
12 Parking Brake Input Light Green (YELLOW/BLACK ON NEW HARNESS)
13 Left Front Speaker – White/Black
14 Left Front Speaker + White
15 Right Front Speaker – Gray/Black
16 Right Front Speaker + Gray

Anyway, hope this makes sense and any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Color does not really matter, the location of the pin is what matters. They try to keep the colors consistent to make installs easier, but as long as you hook it up right, color is not an issue.

Thanks, that was what I thought. I guess I just wanted to make sure the green pb wire isn't rated differently or something, but I'm pretty sure it's no different than the rest. Like you said, it's the location that matters.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

UPDATE: Harness worked fine! Installed the Pioneer GEX-P920XM unit in the glove box and connected to the 2400BT HU. Ran the antenna wire out the back of the glove box and along the upper trim to the back. Works great!
