I think I was robbed of a mirror cover!

Post by mydogsowner »

So, I live on a main street and have to park my Vibe on it.

I went out this morning and discovered that my mirror cover was missing. At first I thought I was hit on that side, since it was the driver's side. But, there was no other damage to the car, or the mirror. Just the cover was missing.

I wonder if it fell off, so I look around. Umm, no, not there.

So, when I get home I call the dealer and they want $86 plus tax for this little plastic piece! I cannot fathom what the entire mirror would cost!

I get the part number and look online and it is still going to run me about $75.

Does anyone know if the Matrix model for the year 2009 Vibe will work? Or, does anyone else know of a cheaper alternative?

BTW, I have to ask if these covers are known to just fall off?

Hmmmmm .... Somebody must need it as bad as you do. I take it these covers are to keep the mirrors clean of ice/snow during winter driving only? I'm going to sew up some covers to slip over the mirror and do the same thing. I'd be curious as to what these even look like. That price seems ridiculous :o Apply some "high voltage" to the next cover and listen for the scream

Yeah, I wish I had caught them in the act!

Anyhow, I have a grey Vibe, so it's GM Part # 19184632, just in case you want to see what I'm talking about.

Grrrrr...It was a really crappy way to start my day

I believe the OP is referring to the color matched part of the side mirrors.

That definitely sucks. I can't imagine it just falling off on its own, but then again, who knows...?

GMPartsCenter.net shows the part number you listed for $60.06. They charge $8.95 handling, shipping is free and they are currently offering 5% off orders over $50.00 using coupon code NOV5 for a grand total of approximately $70.00.

You could also check out car-part.com to see if by chance there are any Vibes in a junkyard near you.

A Matrix one should be the same exact thing, but the paint color may not match since the Matrix and Vibe had different exterior colors.

Thanks for your reply and assistance.

I bit the bullet and found it online at gmpartsdirect.com for $64.32 shipped. That was the best price I could find. I kept hoping one (maybe mine?) would show up on eBay somehow.

I guess I should be thankful that in these economic times I can afford to buy a replacement. So, Happy Holidays everyone!

How does one even get that cover off? Does it snap off?

I'm still at a loss here on this one. Someone educate me as to what exactly we're talking about :o If it is the colored portion of our door mirrors then why/how does it even come off in the first place? I'd think that everything is internally attached & then the mirror glass "snaps" into it's circular clip like most other mirrors ..................... Hmmmmmmmmmm

I was told by my local dealer, who quoted me the $86 + tax, that it just snapped into place. I had also asked him how much the labor would be to install.

It is seen in the attached file at the #4 location.

Thanks Lisa :) Knowing this will make my upcoming mirror LED mod go a lot smoother 8-) I just had no idea that these parts separated so easy. I guess kids will steal just about anything if it comes off easy enough :x . Good luck with the replacement cover .

There is also this on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrome-for-Yari ... 42&vxp=mtr

I though about it, but I don't think the chrome wouldn't go well with my plain Jane Base Vibe model.

I also wasn't sure if it wold fit my Vibe or not too. SO much cheaper though; and for TWO!

Although the 2009-2010 Vibes do have some chrome accents on the exterior, I think something like chrome mirror covers would be too much. Just my $0.02 though.

I just got in from walking my dog and there was a pre 2009 Vibe parked on the street.

I noticed that the door mirrors have a different configuration than mine.

I think maybe the 2009-2010 models may be the only ones with a mirror cover like that? Tpollauf I'm not sure what year yours is, you may want to look into it more for your project. My Best...Lisa :)

They are pictured here in my signature :D Two 2009 Vibe GT's (red one is mine, blue is my son's) with the wife's G8GT in the center. We have the same mirrors and I will soon see how easy they come off & go on. Planning an extensive LED mod to the mirrors this winter and it will require dismantling the mirror completely ;)

Those chrome covers on eBay look like they just adhere to the existing covers. They would look especially nice with a set of those chrome spinning hubcaps
