All fixed..... :)

Post by Digglesworth »

So after going through nothing but hassle, I found a shop to fix the excessive negative camber I had in the rear after installing the s-techs. I had -3.4,-3.2 in the rear. Stock specs say -.3 to -1.8 A lot of shops I called said they wouldn't touch it cause it was lowered... Autotire said it wouldn't be a problem but when I got it there and they put it on the rack, the manager said he wasn't gonna install the necassary shims. Called a few more shops and found a local meineke that said they could do it. I brought my car and the printout I got from autotire just to make sure they knew what they were getting into. They said the shims for the 09 vibe would only compensate up to 1 degree... It took them a little while to get it in but once they got it on the rack, it took about 2 hrs. They got the shims installed and it brought the rear camber back to -1.7 Way better than the 1 degree I expected. The manager also said he couldn't believe he got that much out of it. It's night and day difference. He said I may want to rotate the tires a little more often but the toe is set and the camber is within tolerable specs... Shouldn't have any real bad wear issues. It's sad to think that the most challenging issue with lowering the car was to find a shop that was willing to help me out. Although the manager did give me the "lowered car" speech, he understood what needed to happen to make it better. We both knew the shims weren't gonna take all the negative camber but that's the sacrifice I'm willing to make to have my car dropped. And I think it's well within tolerable specs now. Overall, I'm thrilled with the results and can cross that mod off my list and move on to other stuff.

nice, glad you're satisfied w/ it.
I would be too. I wouldn't mind a lil neg camber. I like the look (so long as it doesn't cause problems)

So, what's next on the list?

A unichip with scion xB tunes... NST crank and water pump pulleys.... Need to get some more info on a header install. Lookin into an ultra racing upper strut bar for the rear (from 08+ corolla)... Probably brake rotors and pads next summer. Along with some maintenance stuff along the way. Gotta drop the tranny pan and change the fluid. Gonna take a look at the vvt filter and replace if necassary. Probably flush the brake system when I do the brakes.... Probably paint the calipers.... The list goes on and on. Just gonna take it one thing at a time....
