HELP! Brake Cable?

So my wife took her car to get it inspected yesterday and it failed. The shop said it was because the brake cable (I am assuming e-brake) is broken. Everyone I talk to says something different regarding where the e-brake cable is/ runs. She called the dealer for the part and they say it is discontinued and no longer able to be purchased. So now I am searching for a cable that I need ASAP to get her car back on the road. Does anyone have info on what I need/ where I can get it? PN? Anything?
