Lowering 09 GT

Post by Digglesworth »

Hello there. I've had my 09gt for almost a year now. I put a magnaflow cat-back on and a k&n typhoon intake. Now it's time to lower it. I can't find any info on lowering the 2nd gen vibes. There's plenty on the 03-08 models. I've seen one person say he used springs from an 03-08 with no issues. Is this true??? I want a set of the Tein S-techs and eventually do a set of tokico hp's. Can I use products listed for the 03-08 models on my 09gt or do I need to be lookin for something else. I plan on picking up a set or 2 of camber bolts for the front so I don't chew through my Yokohamas. Is there anything that needs to be done to the camber in the rear??? I wanna make sure I do this right the first time. Thanks everyone. I love the forum....

Found this post on Matrix Owners and there is an 09 Vibe GT in it. It is lowered a bit too much IMO, but looks like it can be done.

Thanks for the link. I think you're right.... Looks cool but probably just a tad too low for me. May consider the h-techs instead now that I actually see an 09 lowered. That is my ride though. Tinted windows and everything. :)

i still have so many questions..... what all do i need?
-4 cam bolts
-springs
-shocks/struts
do i need to worry about replacing the mounts? and if so, what are those? are there rubber donuts that go in them? are they sold for the front AND the rear? i havent ever taken my suspension apart so i really dont know whats all in there.
do i need new rubber isolators for the springs? and what about the bellows and dust shields? do those come with the new shocks and struts?
its kind of starting to sound like i can build each complete corner assembly with all new parts and get rid of all the old stuff that comes out......
im not trying to break the bank but i want this stuff to be solid and not have to worry about it once its all installed......

well... since im a bit impulsive, i ordered a set of the s-techs. got them from autoplicity for $133 shipped. and apparently everyone just runs their stock shocks/struts cause i cant find anyone that can confirm nor deny aftermarket ones for the 09-10 models. now im wondering if i need the camber bolts or not........??? im just waiting on my registration to matrixowners.com to go through so i can ask a couple members with vibes and s-techs for some advice......

Cool, be sure and keep us informed. Mine will be exactly the same too once I get it tinted, but with a silver pinstripe. :D I might one day lower it a bit if it is a simple and cheap job. I've pulled the springs on my Mustang a couple of times and it was not easy. One thing I would like is to move the rear wheels out a bit with spacers or something. It looks kind of sucked in at the rear, even with the wider tires I have on it.

I'll be sure to post pics once it's together. I just got the itch so I got new super white high and low beams along with matching fogs and a stubby antenna to replace the stock one.

Now I just need to get a few more answers about the camber bolts. I may just get a set to have on hand at alignment time, just in case. Gotta figure out if I need to do anything to adjust the camber in the rear or not..... Theres some good info on matrixowners but for some reason, I'm unable to post yet.

Welcome to GenVibe! It sounds like you already have quite a bit done to your GT so you should post some pictures now before you lower it... we love pictures around here :D!
