2004 GT Alignment Qs

Post by KJones »

Picked her up on Monday, and thinking of taking it in for an alignment and wheel balancing. Has just a slight pull to the right, and that goes away if I move to the left lane of a 4 lane divided highway! If the Vibe's steering wasn't so tight ya might barely notice this, but it needs just a little pressure to keep her straight. Odd thing is another Vibe I test drove had almost the exact same tiny pull. Is this maybe normal?

Checked pressure and found the right rear at 31 and the other 3 around 27 - evened 'em all to 32.5 psi but a little pull is still there. FYI has 17" wheels on it, FWIW, and fairly decent looking General Altimax HPs on.

If this is not "normal" what do you think it is that would let the car drift in the right lane but not in the left?

Oh, and anything I should pass along to the shop regarding the balance specs (just in case y'all know something about this that the "book" doesn't mention)?

Oh, noticed a slight vibration when on the freeway, that's why the balance check.

Roads are designed in such a way that water can't stay on the pavement so the right lane is slightly lower than the left, causing the cars to drift to the right. Now, you can still bring you vibe in a tire shop to check the alignment if you want to make sure !
Good luck

As of the wheel balancing, check the interior of the mag to see if there is dirt, because it can be the cause, and if it is, they'll charge you anywhere from 5 to 10$ for each wheels to remove dirt. It's a pain to pay for something you could've done yourself.

Ty for the info Felix! Will check for dirt for sure, and ignore the pull too. Gotta find a Vibe tire iron and some fasteners for the front splash panels & that should be it til winter. Considering getting a set of 15" rims with snow tires for our Michigan weather.

Update- pull musta been alignment cause the outside of the front driver tire has worn unevenly, and I noticed that a wet-tire-footprint only leaves a print of the worn side of the tire.
