Anyone using PEAK long life anti-freeze?

Post by Chiadog »

After hours of internet search and flush n fill with distilled water, I thought my head was going to explode. I hit the parts store and bought Peak long life anti-freeze. Anybody using this coolant?
Any comments? At least it was cheap - $9.00 W/rebate. It does not contain the evil 2-EHA that dex-cool has. The stuff that came out of the radiator was greenish-brown. Took 3 flushes to get it pretty clear.

I run Toyota's red stuff in the Vibe. Need to change it out again soon, it's been a few too many years... :?

My tin can Hyundai takes standard green ethylene glycol, which is now unobtainable anywhere you look. Now all that's out there is this dexclone "all makes all models" garbage. I thought the Peak looked interesting since it lacks the dreaded 2-EHA, but saw some rumblings somewhere (bitog maybe?) that it might have something similar but the ingredient was kept secret by the manufacturer. All things said, from what I've read i would probably feel more comfortable running the Peak than a Dexclone. I ended up breaking down and got OEM coolant at the dealer for $25 a freakin' jug.

Engine coolants have become far too confusing.

Man, That's a fact! Most of the long-lifes say: "proprietary ingredient formula".
probably their way of hiding 2-EHA clones, as you suggest.

Prestone Extended Life coolant makes it pretty simple........it says on the front of the jug "Any make, Any model, (mixes with) Any color". I dumped the Dexcrud almost 7 years ago and filled with Prestone. Have done a couple of drain/refills over those 7 years.....replaced top and bottom rad hoses a couple of months ago.....cooling system still clean as a whistle. :D

My other vehicles have Prestone Low Tox anti-freeze. I see all kinds of the green stuff, however it is more difficult to find the un-mixed stuff, but its out there. The Low Tox is all straight, un-mixed.

I topped my Vibe with the Zerex Asian car stuff, but will dump and flush this winter and replace all hoses. Not sure what I will do then, probably go back with the Zerex.

Thanks guys!
On my next antifreeze replacement (2 years?), I'll be using Zerex Asian - but only if I can find it in full strength.
