2005 GT grinding shifting to 3rd gear--anybody ever rebuild?

Post by the_sarge »

Good day all, my 2005 GT has 165K relatively trouble-free miles on it until this weekend. The transmission has started to grind a bit when shifting into 3rd gear. It stays in gear fine, and all of the other gears shift OK. I'm thinking I have a synchro that is starting to die so I'm either looking at a rebuild or a replacement transmission.

Has anyone ever rebuilt one of these?

I'm thinking the 6-speed Matrix and Corolla transmissions are the same as this one, am I right?

I'm going to change out the gear oil with some fresh GL-4 tomorrow and hope I can limp around for a bit until I decide what to do.

I would imagine I could find the answers if I SEARCH but this !#*$%! government computer won't load the search page.

Cheers--Steve

Too much hooning into 3rd gear lift!

I had a c60 rebuilt when I had my XRS, but under warranty. Sillyr@bbit on matrixownwers.com is parting out hos car as his engine blew. You might have to pull the tranny yourself, though. He's located in Niagara Falls Ontario....I don't see you location in your sidebar...

Thanks ol' barber! I *may* be guilty of what you speak of... I'll hit sillyr@bbit but I'm afraid distance might be a problem as I'm in Alabama.
