Moonroof won't close

Post by jenheinz »

I have a 2006 vibe, with the moons & tunes package...and the moon roof is just tilted up, but won't move back. It sounds like the motor is trying to move, but wont. I did attempt using wd40 on the sides, just in case it was stuck there, but no luck.

Does anyone thing it's the motor or possibly a belt that needs replacing? It's been really hot & dry here for a couple weeks and I have left the moon roof open most of this time.(i'm in the midwest). No rain is forecast for a while yet, but if you have an idea of the cost to replace that would be great too.

Thanks

Welcome to genvibe

just to be clear, I am assuming when you say it won't move back you mean it won't tilt down to close (since it won't slide back if it's tilted) I assume you've looked to make sure there is no foreign object keeping it from moving. Is it tilted all the way up? Can you try to tilt it more and then tilt it closed? If you can hear the motor trying to move, then it's likely a mechanical issue, not electrical

Very few, if any, moon roof motor failures or jams have been reported here, so it is an uncommon failure. I haven't really looked into the mechanism but I have seen where you'd need to take out the headliner to get to the whole assembly.

You can see some tech info on the thing at http://madstyle1972.com/Repair/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; scroll down to section 74 "sliding roof/convertible" It's a Matrix manual, but for the 03 - 08 moon roof , the Matrix and Vibe are the same
