How do I remove the XM antenna?

Post by JimmyO »

Hey all, I have an '07 Vibe with the factory installed XM radio. I need to install roof rack crossbars, so it looks like I need to remove the XM antenna. Does anyone know how to pop it off? I use the satellite radio, so I definitely don't want to bust it. :)

Appreciate any advice. Thanks!

They look the same as the one on my 2010, and it is bolted to the car from under the roof.

As for the rubber part, it does pull off somehow, but I'm not sure if it is designed to. Mine is actually broken off, and it has two metal contacts inside the base. The radio still works, unless I'm going under an overpass or something is blocking the satellite like a gas station roof.

Yeah, I was able to work off the rubber part and can see the two small metal antennas below. Does anyone know the function of each? My car isn't equipped for OnStar...

Looks like this with the rubber cap removed. There's a little notch where it looks like you might be able to pry off the plastic housing, but before I try that, I want to see if anyone has done it before.

So that's what it looks like under the rubber tip. That whole center part is missing on mine, I just have the base with the hole in it and the little slot on the front end. Like I said, the radio works, but I'm sure it would work better if it had the extended antenna part.

Wel, I've answered my own question... Poking around the forums here, I realized that antenna is standard for many GM vehicles. So after googling around for a few minutes, I came across this page: http://www.archivedsites.com/techlink/2 ... tenna.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Basically you just have to press down on that little tab/slot thingy I mentioned with a small screwdriver, and the XM antenna twists right out, easy as could be. I'm very happy that I won't have to mess with dropping the headliner or anything.

Thanks for chiming in, trb!

Great info! Now all I need, next time I hit my local salvage yard, is a screwdriver to grab the rubber mast for my antenna. :D
