broken exhaust ...thing? help

Post by silverbullet »

I dont know what to call this thing and it doesn't seem too important, but the stud broke on one side when I took it off while working on my exhaust. So does any one have any ideas? Unless there is an easy way I'll just leave it as is, probably not worth tearing apart the interior to replace it from the top side.

I'm having trouble figuring out what we are looking at. Is it front or rear of the car, what year? AWD or FWD? A few more hints would help.

Sorry. 03 fwd. This near the middle of the car after the cats. Its a bar that goes across underneath the exhaust, I guess just to support it if were to break somehow and fall to the ground. One of the studs broke off.

That's the cross brace for the exhaust. It keeps the strain off the manifold and manifold to exhaust joint, where the donut gasket is.

Yep. But the exhaust doesn't rest on it unless its unbolted, or if it came apart somehow while driving. So it seems like a safety net.

Looked under my '04 this evening. That is a safety brace I suspect to keep the exhaust from dropping to the ground if something breaks. Appears to do nothing. Bolts up to the floorboards just aft of the console. Might not be difficult to access actually but If you don't want to bother, I'd hang on to it (stick it in with the spare) and someday you might just have the carpet up and think to reinstall it.
