PVC vales: the great mystery

Post by KITT222 »

PCV valves on 1st-gen 1zz-FE Vibes are a bit confusing. Despite having the same engine and head, there are two different sizes of PCV valves for them. They are either 3/4 inch or 16mm. This, of course, would all be solved if the US had just gone metric like the entire rest of the world, but nooo, we have to use old English Imperial units based on finger and arm lengths of British royalty.

For a full exploration of the metric vs. imperial units fight, check out The Oatmeal.

Anyway, PCV valves. My Vibe has a 16mm PCV, I only know this because my first try didn't work with Purolater PV1066, a 3/4 inch PCV valve. So I ordered a new, 16mm sized one from BWD. P/N PCV 513. I go to put it in, and whaddya know, it doesn't fit. I go back to Advanced Auto where we discover that both PCV valves from BWD/Intermotor have the same part number, PCV513, for both the 3/4in. and 16mm. Go figure I get the 3/4in. Doing so, I also got the correct parts number for the 16mm PCV valve. They are as follows:

(May differ if you don't go to Advanced Auto Parts)

16mm size
Purolater PV1074
Fram FV406
BWD PCV513

3/4inch size
Purolater PV1066
Fram n/a
BWD PCV513

That's all I've got. Please add yours to the table, along with Vibe year, motor, transmission, and if it's a base or AWD

Thank you. I hope for this to some day be the master list of PCV valves for GenVibe.
