flat tire question=-

Post by jamesmetairie »

2003 vibe with 17 alloys. been running venus(hankook) tires and
recently had a flat tire . the nail was just into the shoulder. had plenty of space to the outside.the tire tech put a plug in it without taking the wheel off.
the "rubber manufactuers " say never to repair a flat on the tire shoulder.
this was about a $125.tire with low mileage and the store only wanted to give me $30. on road hazard.
i bought a new tire elsewhere.
question=- what do you guys that type of shoulder flat?

Most tire places won't patch it if it is in the outer section of tread. A plug might be OK, but you always risk the chance of it failing easier vs on the flat tread. They are still hesitant if the nail is in the space between the outer and second tread, but will do it. But it surprises me they only offered you $30 towards a new tire if it is a low mileage tire. That's about the most I've had to pay for a new tire with the road hazard warranties. Now if it is down to 5/32 or so, I could see them only offering $30.
