i have a 2004 vibe with a failing automatic trans, and im planning to drop a 6 speed into it. the problem is i dont know all the parts im going to need to do it. id appreciate any help with a parts list or where i can get the parts cheap. i want to do this swap as cheaply as possible with a good used trans and a new clutch, im trying to not go over $1500 for parts. this is gonna be a big back yard summer project, for sure.

Welcome to GenVibe I admire your determination and wish you the best of luck with this project. In order to keep all costs DOWN, you'll need to acquire almost ALL of the needed parts from the same wrecked Vibe. That said, your toughest battle may be locating a worthy wrecked Vibe. I pulled off this identical feat with one of my '74 GM F-body cars (Camaro-Firebird) back in my younger days. It was extremely easy back then and I think it only cost me $500 for the 4-speed Muncie that took the place of a 350 turbohydramatic. Anyways "go for it" and post lots of pics in the process
people say they are going to do it, some say it has been done before, but I can't find a thread where someone has actually done it
I know there are more, but two threads about people thinking about doing an auto to manual swap are viewtopic.php?f=12&t=17506" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; viewtopic.php?f=12&t=27168" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
thanks for the links, me and my friend are gettin it done, were runnin into some troubles with the gauge cluster, but hopefully its bc theres a bunch of stuff unhooked under the hood and will straighten out once its back together. for a lil update, we got the old trans out, the driveplate, the new PCM is in it, as is the clutch pedal assembly and master cylinder (a funny thing is im using the clutch resivoir out of a C4 corvette instead of the shared one thats normal for vibes), the shifter is in it too. i ended up not being able to do anything for 4 days bc i had to order parts from the dealer($$ ouchie!!), but we should have the new trans in it tomorrow, we hope, i need to atleast get it on the ground so i can get the back tires outta the yard so i can cut the grass, which my dad cares more about that than me gettin the car drivin again(go figure). hopefully the good ol vibe will be drivin again by friday, and ill be lovin my vibe even more =)

I got it done, sorry about me falling off the face of the earth for a while, had to work, and started college. it runs like a champ now, but a word of warning, its a bigger project than you think itll be, trust me. id say the worst part is gettin a 5 speed pcm, it has to come out of the same year vibe, one thing that cant come from a matrix. that, and the back trans mount absolutely SUCKED. but if you want to do it, gotta give me a lil credit for doing it first and lettin you know how to do it

I wish I could do an automatic 4-speed to an automatic [number bigger than 4] speed swap

Actually, the worst part NOW will be uploading ALL the pics and attaching a tutorial explanation of how it all went down Congrats on this huge accomplishment
yea, I know, I'll put a complete write up on it this weekend if I have the time. the main problem is i didnt take but only a few pics during the actual process, but I'll do my best to illistrate how everything needs to be done with pics i can take this weekend. atleast now i dont have to fight (and curse multiple times) to get the back trans mount back in or drive all over the place lookin for the right pcm, all i gotta do is post alotta pics and type on the computer for a long time
