Whole car shaking after stereo install

Post by bigdaddyjosh »

Last night I installed a new radio in my car. I removed the negative terminal and it remained off for several hours. Later when everything was put back together and I started the car It started shaking. I noticed the rpms were very low at idle. Around 500 i think. If I push the gas and get it up to 800-900 (normal idle) the shuddering stops. This was not a problem before I started. Did the computer forget the idle speed? After running it today a little the rpm's are slowly coming back to normal range. But sometimes when I come to a stop they will go back to 500 and the shudders start again.

I have read something about idle relearn. Is this what is going on here?

Nevermind. It was the idle relearn process. Over the last 2 days the idle slowly returned to normal. Now it no longer shakes.

That being said, I now have a brand new double din receiver and after this weekend Ill have a backup camera installed!

I must have been lucky OR the 2009 Vibes just reacts differently. Over the winter when I installed heated seats in the Vibe, the battery was disconnected for an entire day and when reconnected everything, was back to normal instantly :) Also post pics of your camera installation and specs (make, model, price, vendor, etc.) I may be interested in doing the same. Good luck ;)
