New old member here

Post by crazytrain »

Joined in July '06 when I purchased my '06 Vibe, but I think my last post was sometime in '08 when my car died and needed the PCM and throttle body replaced.

So, yesterday I get an email from GenVibe with my username & new password. I thought to myself "Wow, haven't been to GenVibe in years - got to check it out again". So, here I is :D

Still got the '06 Stealth Vibe, now with 116,000 miles. It's running better than any car I've ever had with this mileage and averaging 28MPG. On my third set of tires & second set of brakes. Still a very comfortable & smooth ride and looks great when washed & waxed even with all the pitting on the hood and windsheild. Gotta love driving behind dump trucks at 70+ MPH.

Hopefully I can stick around longer this time. Seems like a good group of folks around here.

Welcome back. I joined in 2006, too. Well, just barely. I am due for the second set of brakes you speak of, and my second set of tires still have a lot of life left in them, seeing that I haven't hit 75k just yet. Hope you stop back in again, seeing that you still have a Vibe in the family. It speaks volumes about these cars when you can be off the forum radar for a few years and not need too much of the sage advice we offer here!

Yeah, I'll tell ya, except for that issue I had back in 2008 with a PCM board it's just been routine maintenance. I did get a recall notice notice sometime last year, but my car didn't need the replacement (I think it was about the PCM board anyway).

Welcome back. How was it that you got a "reminder" of a new password and username? I don't expect you to have the answer but maybe thousands of members got those e-mails like yourself since the site was just recently overhauled. I didn't get one and had some minor difficulty getting back in. I'm here to stay. Now that you too are back get re-involved and visit often. This is an unbelievable informative site ;)

Same here, I got the email. I'm glad I did, I've tried several times to get back in but never got an answer back from when I requested a new password or old password. Nevertheless, I'm here. I don't have my vibe anymore though. I about cried the day I had to trade it in on another car. I racked up over 130k on it and because I drive about 150 miles back and forth to work each day I just had to have something that was going to last me at least 3 more years and 100k more miles. My clutch was going out again, needed the air conditioning fixed and the headlights kept blowing out for some reason. I had a good hull with the vibe and she never stranded me for even one day. Anyways, good to be back!

Yeah, I kind of felt the same way when I sold my '92 Saturn SC2. I drove that car for 14 years, or was it 12? Hmmmm, onset of alzheimers - you heard it here first :D

I, too, am back with a new login name. I wish there could have been a bit more notice, but that's that. The important thing is this site still exists and is invaluable for a vibe owner. Now about that radio knob . . . .

When we converted the database from the old forum software to the new forum software, the passwords weren't migrated. To deal with this, the consultants gave me a computer program that was supposed to email every user with their new password.

I started using the program, which runs pretty slow (estimate one user every 5 seconds or so). I had gotten about 1/3 of the way through the database when I found out that there was a bug in their program. The bug was causing it to send dozens and dozens of emails to the same person - any person with an apostrophe in their username was getting like 50 copies of the same email. So I had to stop using the program. I didn't get any complaints, but I do feel foolish.

I finally got a fix for it and I am still sending out those emails. Of course all the regular users are already back online, but I wanted to go through the whole user list anyway, perhaps we'll bring back a few users who have been away for a while. It also gives me the opportunity to purge from the database users who would rather not have their accounts with us anymore.

You may still get an email - now that the problem with the emailing program is resolved *and* I made some good progress on the problems that people were having regarding receiving their "forgot password" email, I'm back to running the program. We'll see how it goes.

Love it!

Every once in a while when my wife asks what I want for dinner I say "four fried chickens and some dry white toast." She looks at me like I'm crazy. One day, when the planets are aligned properly, the movie will be on TV and I'll tune in right on that scene......and she's gonna kill me
