Using Stock Satellite Antenna with aftermarket radio on 09 Vibe GT

Post by Burkett1974 »

Hi Everyone!I have recently upgraded my head unit in my 09 Vibe GT and would like to add XM radio using the Pioneer GEX-P920XM adapter. My question is, can I use the existing Satellite antenna on my Vibe with this unit or will I have to mount the magnetic antenna on the roof of the car as well. If it is a possibility, where is the antenna plug located in the car and is an adapter needed? I had the monsoon sound system, but have replaced the head unit, amp, sub and speakers with aftermarket items.Any help is appreciated!

What kind of input does the Pioneer unit have? This looks like the same XM antenna and it has these connectors so I bet you would need an adapter for it:The XM unit is in the passenger quarter panel area. Tpollauf has some pics of the location and here is a thread with the same question:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=45945

The Head unit is the F700bt. The unit that the antenna will need to plug into is the GEX-P920XM It looks like this: If you know of an adapter part name or number, it would be appreciated.

Oh hey, this is the aftermarket XM unit I had picked up. I'll have to watch this thread.

Ok, so from what I have been able to find so far, the adapter is the FAKRA adapter cable shown here: Now, I know the stock antenna (from the pic in the post above) has 3 wires, but my question is, are all three needed for reception or are two of them for signal boost? If only one is needed for reception, which would be the one to attach the adapter to?Again, any help is greatly appreciated!
