Opinions on graphics scheme?

Post by Kincaid »

Been noodling around w/my poor skilz on MS paint, with variations on a similar theme. Anyone have an opinion?I originally was thinking of just matte black vinyl, though at a roadster show last weekend I saw two companies that did body wraps and one had a carbon fiber look available - although it has a bumpy texture and is not smooth. So, this first one blacks out the center of the hood, the roof and part of the rear gate. Inspired by 60's muscle cars - especially the "340" logo on the hood of Plymouth Dusters - I thought about having something similar. Hence, the "2.4L". Because it is the paint program I couldn't angle it like I would want but you get the idea. By the way, I put some "hash marks" that were intended to be real hood louvers, just because I think those would be very cool. I would not put anything fake there. This one below is similar, and just blacks out more of the rear hatch. This one covers the entire hood and rear gate, which I am pretty sure that if I went this route I'd go with the carbon fiber look. Oh yeah, if I did the entire roof in carbon fiber look vinyl, I might use matte black on the rear wing, because on the roof CF can look like a real panel, but I don't intend to cover the entire rear wing - just the top surface and leave the "ears", the rear lip of it and the underside silver. This is just down to the rear body line and uses an alternate view of the rear. If I did this minimal thing, I might use gloss black to mimic a larger rear window.Because I already uploaded the above pic, I made an alternate rear view of what I would do covering most of the entire hatch. I apologize for the ham-handed "spoiler" - just trying to give an idea of what it would look like on my car.Anyways, I guess there are three possibilities - matte, gloss black and carbon fiber. I might even mix all three - could do a matte hood decal, a carbon fiber roof panel and then a gloss black panel around the rear window. I suppose a rule of thumb would be that if I covered the entire section (hood, roof or gate) I'd be very tempted to go with the carbon fiber look. Possibly could also add another, smaller, cut out "2.4L" on the rear hatch.
