I've look to see if I can find anything about this but didn't find any solid solution.2003 base, drums in back. When I apply the breaks, especially between 45-25 they make a consistent clunking that varies in speed with the car. The best think I can compare it to is the sound of hitting a pothole with bad sway bar links. That or a rusty old car door hinge on a bind... Anyway, the drums and shoes have been replaced twice within 30k. They were original and had 180k or so on them. After about 1k the new units made this noise. My brake guy thought it could be the adjusters and tinkered with them and worked the clunk away, a few thousand miles after it came back. He took the drum off and checked the shoes. They had an abnormal wear pattern. We replaced both the drums and shoes and started again. (Thank you Duralast warranty) The car stops solid and I don't feel unsafe in it, but I have no idea what is causing the clunk and it's quite annoying. One thing I've heard is that the springs could be bad. At one point throughout this ordeal the drums were too tight and doing alot more of the braking than needed. Any ideas?
