Factory Stereo Wattage (non-monsoon)

Post by jdrussell »

I have a 2005 Vibe with the standard factory audio system (not monsoon) and I need to replace the factory stereo with an aftermarket one. I've done a few searches trying to find out once and for all what the watts per channel is for the factory stereo, but can't seem to narrow it down. I don't want to buy a new head unit until I know what wattage the factory speakers can handle.

Maybe I should say it this way; Those of you who have put in aftermarket head units, what wattage-per-channel have you used? (assuming you kept the factory speakers)

...might try asking a TOYOTA parts person about the speaker wattage capacity on a MATRIX...same parts, but at least TOYOTA is still around, unlike PONTIAC.
...and the Devil said: "...yes, but it's a DRY heat!"

In case anyone else was wondering, I think I found my answer. Matrix (and I'm assuming Vibe) factory speakers for that year are 17.5W.
