Last summer I attempted an install of a new headunit in the Vibe while keeping all the other functionality I was used to (sounds/chimes, OnStar, steering wheel controls, SiriusXM radio, etc.) while adding a USB input and Bluetooth integration. There were lots of issues with wrong parts, etc. and the fact that the factory XM does not integrate. Finally one day we shorted out the aftermarket wiring harness while trying to fix it, and since we had run out of money, we gave up and returned to stock. I've got a great headunit and an unopened XM radio sitting in boxes in the garage now. In order to get it to work, I'd have to install this secondary XM unit, buy a new wiring harness, modify it to work properly with the steering wheel controls (the recommended wiring harness comes with the wrong wires) and then finally reinstall the whole thing again.I'm just wondering if it's even worth it to go ahead and try it again this year, spending another $100 for a new wiring harness and having to put this secondary XM unit in. I'd love to have that USB input to play mp3s (because the existing AUX input sounds like CRAAAAAP) and the Bluetooth integration was awesome when we tested it out, but I dunno if it's worth all the ridiculous hassle. Thoughts?

Yeah, actually installing it wasn't the problem (we did get it figured out after weeks of trial and error) the question is do I want to spend ANOTHER $100+ replacing that wiring harness and the proper connection for the steering wheel controls, then have to install the aftermarket XM and switch my subscription over to it? Blah. But I suppose that's an option.I am somewhat leaning towards yes, if only because I am going to have the car a few more years. What I think we need to do at the meet is figure out how to replace the interior orange lighting on all the buttons with red LEDs

Its worth it.. I had to do the same thing in my old Dodge truck.. It had an 8 speaker factory stereo. I had to literally remove the factory head unit, mount it under my driver seat and then run a giant octopus looking wiring harness from under my seat to the dash where the new head unit was.. it was a nightmare and took an entire weekend plus an additional $250 ontop of the $1100 head unit I already bought.. Worth every second!
