The power locks on my 03 vibe base model DO NOT unlock anymore when i turn off the ignition, they used to, where do i start to tackle this? They still automatically lock when i start the vehicle.
As unbelievable as this may sound, how your doors lock and unlock with an automatic transmission equipped car is actually programmable. This isn't mentioned in the owners manuals that I've seen. There are 4 different Modes of programming.Mode 1: "All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved our of Park (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. There is no automatic door unlocking."Mode 2: No automatic door locking or unlockingMode 3: Automatic locking, automatic unlocked when shifting into Park (P)Mode 4: Automatic locking, automatic unlocking when the key is turned off or to acc. There is a reprogram procedure which is too long to type here. Long story short, disconnect the battery for 10 15 minutes and hook it back up. The default mode is Mode 4. See if that works. IF it doesn't contact me, I'll take the time to explain the reset or maybe someone has already done it before me and it is in the older posts somewhere? You may have inadvertently by a combination of the gear shift and key position reprogrammed your locks behavior.Dave
Oh, what the heck it took almost as many words to say it's too long to type as it would have to type it!?!? It's Sunday morning, just had breakfast, no immediate plans....1. Set the interior lamp control dial to the door position.2. Move the shift lever into PARK (P) and close all doors and liftgate.3. Turn the ignition to ON.4. Within five (5) seconds after the ignition is turned to ON, press and hold the power door lock switch in the lock position for about five seconds.5. The interior lamp will flash to indicate that the mode has been changed. For example, it the lamp flashed once, the function has been changed to Mode 1.6. Turn the ignition off. Then repeat steps 3 through 5 to select consecutive modes.IF the battery is disconnected or run down, the mode is changed to the initial mode which is Mode 4.Dave
This is awesome. I never knew about the Vibe's ability to do this. I knew other cars could, just not ours.I can't tell you how many people get annoyed with me, having to wait until I turn the ignition off for their doors to even open. With kids, I could see why this would be a good idea, but adults are not fans. I've been unlocking the doors myself the second I stop the car so they can get out at their own pace.Mode 3 to the rescue!
ok well i disconnected the battery for about 12-13 minutes, hooked back up still no luck with the power locks. I did try the modes in steps but that didn't work either.
Maybe the multifunction alarm module is shot? haven't yet heard of this but it is all controlled by this unit. It's located under the dash on the drivers side. There is a large wire junction block held in place with screws, it's under that junction block. Check for loose or damaged wires / connectors into the unit. You haven't added anything lately have you? A radio, a remote start, some lights somewhere?Does the system work with the remote?Does the system work with the button on the drivers door?It only does not unlock when you turn off the engine? Will the button on the door unlock everything or does the key fob unlock everything?Dave
BTW I forget to warn you but by pulling the battery terminals, your radio just forgot Everything it knew!! Sorry about that!! The control module will also have to relearn how you drive so the car may respond a little differently than you are used to as well!Dave
my vehicle came with an aftermarket alarm the fob was an auto mate anyway it broke awhile ago i never replaced it, the vehicle is equipped with a auto start but without that fob is useless. This problem with the power locks started happening before the fob was broken. Yes to the door locks do work unlocking and locking both driver door and passenger door. I'm wondering if its something electrical i believe it started working once before again then stopped and hasn't worked since.
Good Luck, I've done about all that can be done via keyboard. Next is hands on with a wiring diagram testing wire integrity, connections and proper operation. Also figuring out how these extra items are wired in and once knowing, does their presence in any way affect the door locks? You mention the button does the front doors, what about the back doors and the deck lid?At least the button works!Dave

yeah both front door lock buttons unlock all doors and tailgate. if i use the key outside the car the passenger door opens and locks ALL doors and tailgate, the driver door key hole only opens and locks just the driver door.
its been a long time since my vibe had working door locks, but i think if you put the key in the drivers door and unlock it 2x it unlocks all the doors. i think i recall that, but i could be totally remembering wrong.
