So I've got a wheel bearing out on my 05 AWD Vibe. I called my local garage and boy did my eyes pop out when I was told the price. Almost 700 bucks! 355 for the bearing and the balance in labour and taxes. Ok, now some guy a colleage knows owns a garage and he'll do it for like 180 for the part and 75 labour. My question is this....am I getting hosed at my original garage? I mean, is there a way to take all the brake parts off without completely disassembling the brakes? Since it's a hub style setup, it certainly does seem plausable that the drum assembly can simplyl be unbolted, and then the wheel bearing assembly replaced and then the drum assembly reinstalled.Halp please!
Didn't feel right going to backyard greaseball. Something didn't sit right...anyways...found a place and got it down to about $600. This was expensive. Will try to scan bill for scroutiny by the masses.

Not a complicated job? Apparently it took 3 hours. In order to do the job correctly you pretty much have to take the brake assembly off to remove the bearing. I know they made their margin on the part...$405 AND there was only 1 left in the city. I'm more concerned about the job being done right...and the car rides awesome now.
