what is different about the gt engine that gives it 50 more hp. My wife has awd 04 vibe. I drove it for the first time in a long time yesterday. Oh boy that thing is slow. Im looking to add some preformance. Is the tunning of the ecm the only diff. Or are there bolt on parts that i can change so she can pass some one on the highway?
It is an entirely different motor lawson. I'm sure the GT pilots in the group will fill in the specifics. For any serious power in the base 1.8, you may want to check out the guys that supercharged their AWD'sPat
Yep the TRD SC is the easiest way to add any real HP to these AWD cars (oh by the way they are really 4WD). The AT TRD piggyback ECU works well with these cars so no need for other piggyback systems. I don't know of anyone that has put a GT/2zz engine in the 4WD ...yet.

i would love to supper charge it but this is my wifes daily driver and she dont care that much but would love to be able to pass when she either wants to or needs to. Found something called GF chips. Any one heard of this or have one if not where do i start whith out breaking the bank. She wants to keep her car as close to the factor exhaust sound as possiable. Also mpg is top on the list.

A good intake will give you a little more power and, as long as you don't step on the gas, it can also give you a decent gas mileage increase. An intake will also add a nice tone to the engine without being loud or obnoxious.

PLEASE don't get a "CHIP". They are nothing but a 10 cent resistor that the car's ECU/PCM will learn to work around after a week or so. An intake is a good start and maybe a Custom Cat-back exhaust. There are no after market catback exhaust for the AWD.Check this out http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=24144Also before your start modding this thing make sure your seals on the rear differential are in good shape. If leaking replace them soon. Otherwise it'll cost you BIG (as much as the SC would). I'd also suggest an upgrade the fluid there and the transfer case.

I prefer the sound of just an intake. It adds a little growl without being droning and annoying like a full on aftermarket exhaust. Just my $.02.

Mine isn't much louder than stock. It's deep and throaty. I don't like noisey exhausts. Edit: My intake make more noise than the exhaust.
