oil pressure switch and timing sensor ?

Post by cegarbage »

I'm not very car literate, pardon the ignorance. Any have these go bad? My car wouldn't start yesterday after having exhibitied no problems. Mechanic said code #1692 came up and had to replace. Parts 144/labor 190. Mechanic said parts supplier was surprised this piece died. Once the supplier found out I have 203,000 miles, he wasn't surprised anymore...

I see you have an 03 GT.I don't remember anyone reporting those going bad before, but I guess it could happen. Looking at the troubleshooting procedure for P1692 at http://madstyle1972.com/Repair...2.pdf another cause could be the oil control valve filter. I would probably at least check that before dropping the money on parts replacement. A relevant thread on that is http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=42494However, I'd expect a filter to exhibit more of a gradual issue, not a sudden definitive "car won't start problem". so maybe it is a part failure
