52w head unit with 50w speakers, bad idea?

Post by rgnjc »

I'm looking at the Sony CDXGT56UI which is 52w, I have the M&T package. I don't know enough about audio systems to know if I should be concerned about the head unit putting out 52w with a 50w speaker set up. Can somebody enlighten me?

You are fine doing that. 52W is peak per channel. Your RMS on that unit is only 17W. Unless you are literally running it full blast non-stop, you have nothing to worry about.
