Power lock issue on 2007 Dodge Caravan

Post by jake75 »

My daughter sent this to me - her Caravan does not have remote keyless entry but has the power door locks activated by a button on both front driver and passinger sides."Hey Dad - If you are looking for something to surf the web for.....the passenger side lock on the sliding door of my '07 Dodge Caravan van will not work with the electrical button. I know you are subscribed to the auto forums, so someone may know of a hint. Is this something major or simple to fix?"

Does it not unlock as well? Or does it just not lock? I had a similar issue with a Santa Fe where the driver's door would not lock with the remote or the door button, but it would unlock. Ended up replacing the actuator. One possible cause to investigate. I replaced it myself (part cost about $60 from dealer) and saved around $200 in labor. Was NOT and easy task though and wouldn't want to have to do it again! If it doesn't lock or unlock, could be the actuator or could be something as simple as a wire came unplugged. Is she handy enough to take the panel off and have a look around?

Does not lock or unlock. I did some research on the internet and while it might be a wire it probably is the actuator. Her husband might be handy enough to fix. If it costs $250 to get it fixed they probably will just live with it. Keep it in the locked position. Unload out of the driver side sliding door. This '07 is one of the last vehicles to have power door locks but NOT remote entry.

Doesn't the sliding doors have a small rectangle with 5-7 contacts on the end facing the front of the van that mates up with a similar set of contacts on the B pillar(the door slides open instead of opening with hinges like the front doors so there is no way for a conventional wire harness)See if all the contacts are cleanAlso see if the manual lock button on the top of the door is binding. It should be easy to replace but not cheap if you go the dealer wayhttp://forum.chryslerminivan.n...eviceHowever as you delve deeper into the link I gave you, people have found out it is just a $5-$15 DC hobby motor that you can change outThat should help you with itCheers

Thank for the insight - I overlooked the fact that there is no wiring harness to the sliding doors and I have a '07 Chrysler T&C myself. .
