Swapped over the winter wheels this weekend and I noticed my front struts are probably shot. I have about 155,000 on the 05 vibe. It rides like crap but it rides better than my 02 P5 did with 270,000 on it and I had replaced those struts. I'm just trying to find if Rockauto has the best prices. Checked most other places I could think of and it looks like it. (O'Reily's, AZ, AA, etc). Wasn't sure about which brand. I used KYB's on my mazda as that was pretty much stock. The boots on the front are pretty gnarled up and the one is completely torn off. Replacement springs? I do a little bit of towing of my boat so on the rear I have spring blocks which I'm sure make it a rougher ride but it's not that unpleasant. I just get in and go. It's not so rough that I get out of the car and think about (aside from posting here.) Just wondered if anyone has any spots to check for struts?
Yea I also check rock auto for prices. THe prices on rockauto should be as good as anywhere else unless you find a sweet deal somewhere. I'd go into a car quest and ask them how much they could get them for. That way its free shipping to the parts store. I've heard good things about the KYB GR-2 struts. I'd like to get new struts too even tho my 2009 vibe only has 30,000 on it. I put TRD springs on my car and Im pretty sure they blew out the original struts. The ride was ok for the first year after the springs were installed but lately the car is rides really harsh.
hmmmm stagg.. I looked around for them on car forums, a few people who have them say good things. Perhaps its a similair to KYB? I'm finding KYB's get mixed reviews all over the place. Seems like people either are really happy with them or think they're terrible. The tokico HP stuts look really good at a price only slightly higher than KYB's. but bummer for me they dont have an application for 2009 vibe. They only make struts for a 2009 yaris. :/at any rate if you go with stagg Im sure plenty of vibe people would be interested to know how they work out.
The worry about the Stagg is that they are basically an unknown. What good is a lifetime warranty if the company is 6 months from going under? One nice thing about Monroe, KYB and Tokico is that they are staples in the autoparts community. I emailed the Stagg company but it was returned undeliverable. That's a little worrisome.
