Turning your overdrive ON should make your RPMs drop, not spike. Only when you turn it OFF should they rev up. How fast are you going? You won't notice much of a difference below 30 or 35 MPH.

O/D is defaulted to "ON". Pushing the button will disable it, preventing the transmission from shifting past 3rd.O/D is just 4th gear in the transmission. Some people seem to have this confused with the transmission downshifting for passing power. From what I've read, the shift points of the 4 speeds are different when the transmission is cold. They will hold onto a gear longer before upshifting during "normal" driving, but will also limit engine RPM under heavier acceleration before it's warmed up. This sounds like what's happening here - although I'm not sure just how "cold" it's getting in Florida these days...

Spot on. Which explains why nothing is noticed in low speeds! Vibe13, did this explain it for you? My guess is you were disengaging OD when you had reached higher MPH in the past, and maybe tried it recently when you were just coasting along in much slower speeds.
